Enlisted in the Australian Military Forces on the 10 January 1942 and allotted Army number N470792. He stated on enlistment that:
He was born at Kempsey, New South Wales on 29 August 1915, 
His next of kin was his Wife Mrs Mildrerd Hudson of Toorooka P.O, New South Wales.

On Joining, hi listed his occupation as a farmer.

Joshua was assigned to the 30th (NSW) Battalion Volunteer Defence Corps (VDC)

He was discharged on the 30 September 1945 when his unit was disbanded.
