Medals
Enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on the 9 June 1915, and allotted Army number 2607. He stated on enlistment that:
He was born at Kempsey, New South Wales on 6 June 1890,
His next of kin was his Mother Mrs Islet Maud Hudson of Hickeys Creek, Macleay River , New South Wales.

Alonzo joined the Australia 3rd Battalion on the 8 January 1916 and served in England and France,
Whilst in France Alonzo sustained a number of wounds in action, one of which lead to the amputation of his left leg.
As a result of his gallantry in action, it was recommended Alonzo receive the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) on the 17 August 1917, the DCM was promulgated in the Fourth Supplement to the London Gazette No 30234, 14 August 1917 and then in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette No 219, December 1917.

Distinguished Conduct Medal
HIS MAJESTY THE KING has been graciously pleased to approve of the award of the Distinguished Conduct Medal to the undermentioned non-commissioned officer, for acts of gallantry and devotion to duty in the field:-
No. 2607 Lance-Corporal A. Hudson
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He was in charge of the extreme right post of our line which the enemy attached heavily, driving out the garrison with bombs.
He alone reorganised the the men of his section and leading them back to the post he established it, capturing and killing 20 of the enemy, he was severely wounded.
